the names we are given.
ok heres something i have been wondering about , how do we come up with the names that we go by as vampyres , like my birth name is jeffrey woods , but i go by dark angel ,even though this was from my gothic life .
so what im wondering about should i use a diff name , or is there a ritual of some sort that gives you a diff name , you know like when your born your are given a name by your mum and dad and thats your birth name , so as your awaken in other words reborn , whould you have a diff name , and if so who gives you the name , and should it have a meaning behind it ?at one time i was going to join a family out of germany since my girlfriend was part of the family and they hold a ritual when your acepted into the family. they do a blood ritual and at that time the elder of the house gives you your vampyre name and that is what you are requried to go by , so is there such a ritual for giving names? or do we just decide what we are going to go by ? i know in my past lifes i went by diff names becuz of my rebirth into that life. so shouldnt it hold the same as a vampyre , and if we decide to use a diff name do we change it by the courts so its our legal name [ has any one done this?] im sure if i did change mine though the court my birth mum would freak out [ but since i have been reborn as a vampyre it makes since to me to have a diff name .

its a search into what you relate to similar to a pagan or wiccan naming or if you trust another Vampyr and they know you well enough they could name you but the process sometimes takes a while. I did studies to come up with mine though I did add to it and I still have to leave my natural initials in there JP to legally be ordained though I dont like my natural name much, its way to common and christian LOL...

As far as names go I suppose we pick the name that we feel best suits us. I use my middle name instead of my first because I can best relate to it and feel that it fits me better. I also have my magickal name that I have picked for myself.Which is a Wiccan tradition. Names are very personal and hold great power. I don't know if I would want someone else to pick a name for me unless they consulted me first on what the name would mean and how it personaly appealed to me. But these are just my veiws on it. I'm not sure of the giving of a name by an elder part. It probaly is done by certain organizations.Although I may be wrong about that to.It would be interesting to learn about it, though. :)

my name is robert but I use my middle name anthony because it is a christian name and i am very much christian at heart,
however due to the fact that i am still going through my awakning in vampirissim most in the vamp community think im off my rocker , and i have been called baby bat, but i am well known as batinflight, so yes its like daniella said its all about picking the name that suits us best,..

For me, it was no real big issue... The same name I go by online is the same name everyone calls me each and every name. Belfazaar was what my Great Grandfather named me before tribal council. I wear the name with pride and love because he was my first and favorite teacher of anything mystical. Ashantison came from the fact that my first Elder in the vampire community, Ashanti Whitemantle, took me under her wing and basically taught me the same things my Great Grandfather did about self respect, not to be ashamed of my nature (neither the vampirism nor the mystical) and more...
Oddly enough "Belfazaar" roughly translates out in Ancient Hebrew as "king of the dead"... I've died twice on record... *wonders if that technically makes me undead* Anyway...
Choice of a name doesn't always have to be some mystical 'oogie boogie'/'hocus pocus' bull crap. It could simply be a matter of how the you feel about someone else's nickname for you, a special relationship with a friend/loved one/family member or any combination of the above mentioned. When the name is right, it will resonate with you on more than just a vocal level...
Thus Belfazaar Ashantison is who, as well as what, I am...

My names were given to me....I have yet to chose my own *snicker*
My mother named me Heather after the flower
My best friend, my soul-sister if you will, calls me Sun because, and she's told me this repeatedly, that I seem to 'drink' in the sunlight every time we're outside...and because my irises are turning yellow.
Honestly, I believe every person has and often does have a multitude of names that fit the various different aspects of their personality. I believe everyone has a soul name, a physical name, and then the various nicknames and such that our friends come up with, and that's in addition to vampyre names for us vamps. Your soul name sticks with you and often times you won't remember it because it can give another person power over you (names do have power :P). Our physical names change with each reincarnation, and nicknames are given so frequently and change so often, it's sometimes hard to keep track of them all (I have 3 that are used with any regularity and no, I'm not telling :P), and then you've got your vampyre name. Whether this is something you choose (some seem to name themselves after their....sires for lack of a better word, and some don't) or something you simply know, I have no idea.
Elders giving names....I guess it depends on which way your faith flows. I *have* no Elders, so I honestly couldn't give an opinion. Course, the Elders of my dad's family want nothing to do with me because I'm too different and the Elders of my mom's family are too busy fighting each other to get anything done.
Again, these are my thoughts on the subject. Frankly I believe you should follow your instincts and make damn sure that whatever name you go by, it's one you want and isn't forced on you.

I actually like my birth name, Gwen. It's a name that's not too common and has a rather romantic flair to it (as in Guinevere). I'm somewhat obsessed with the Arthurian legends, so no problem there. My Vamp name Sabella actually comes from a Tanith Lee story I really like and represents the darker and more aggressive side of my nature. My spirit name which I don't share was given to me in a vision when I was about 15.
If you feel you need a name, find one... if one sticks, keep it. Otherwise I don't think it's that important. Anyone who gives you a hard time about it can buzz off.

very good advice sabella ,when i wrote this out to share with others i was going by the name of dark angel it was given to me as a goth for that was what i thought i was at the time , but later i learned what i truly was , and since then my name was changed to angel ,it was given to me by a very special woman named danielle for she didnt think that dark angel fit me , and since this woman has became the most important person in my life , the name stuck

I always and for ever will be known as Zim a name givin g to me cuase of the drummer Zim Zum ad invader Zim i was called Zim and it seemed to have sticken to me people in the outside world off the web call me Zim to sometimes i forget my real name aka AAron ugh i hate it but people will call ,e by that and some times i dont answer lol so the whole name thing can also just happen and it turns out its the name we use insted i guess it is really about what fits you
