What is Shadow Witchcraft? by Chakkraa - Excerpt from my book in progress

Shadow Witchcraft is the ability to be able to embrace both the light and dark aspects of the Divine. We don’t see magick as black or white for magick is neither like no one person is absolute good or evil. We embrace more of the darker aspects of the Divine because it touches us in the same way the light aspect may touch others. The Divine isn’t all about love and compassion, the Divine can be cruel and merciless. All things in nature have a darker side and many cultures teach that darkness is evil and that light will prevail. The darkness is essential when it comes to magick as well as life because sometimes you must look through the darkness to see the light. We’re not saying its okay to primarily practice left hand path magick, such as curses and hexes, for we still believe in the threefold law but, sometimes you may need to bring yourself to a dark place so you may find the light in the situation.

Not all who chose the path of Shadow are suited for it. It is a very hard, winding road and many will shun you. I have been on my path for well over half of my life and the criticism and ignorance from others has only made me stronger. The path of Shadow has no set learning style. Of course there are basic lessons you must learn and strive to perfect but otherwise it is YOUR path. Not all who walk this path practice in the same way, the basics of the Craft apply but everything else is your choice. The path of Shadow is one of discovery and no matter how long you have been on the path you will never learn everything.

Every practioner of our traditions, whether they be witch, godhi, or shaman, are still learning everything they can from each other and the world around them. The path of Shadow is not just one tradition but made up of three. These three traditions make up the basis of Shadow Witchcraft. Each of the founders of each tradition has made it their life’s work to further their knowledge. You will see us studying along side our students, not just teaching them what we know, because we are still learning as well. With every piece of knowledge shared, more is gained. The three traditions of Shadow are:

Shadow Tradition - This tradition is based on the Morningstar family tradition and mixed with elements of Egyptian, Faery, and Green Witchcraft (specifically the Green tradition taught by Ann Moura). This tradition was founded by Chakkraa Morningstar

Shadow Norse Tradition - This tradition is a mix of Ásatrú, Odinism, and Skaldi with undertones of witchcraft. This tradition was founded by Arickasha Darkstar

Shadow Wolf Tradition - This tradition is also based on the Morningstar family tradition and mixed with elements of Shinto and Faery. This tradition was founded by WolfShadow Morningstar

We started the path of Shadows with the idea that others like us, those who are considered dark in Wicca, Witchcraft and Paganism, would have a place within the pagan world. A lot of us are Gothic, Vampyre, and the like. To us we are normal and we cross a line that many would not have the strength too. We’re not saying that because you’re not gothic or punk you can’t be a practitioner of Shadow Witchcraft. We’re just informing you that was one of the many factors of how we found our place within the pagan community. We don’t represent evil in any way, shape or form. We honor the threefold law, the Wiccan Rede as well as many other codes of ethics but we are also people and people often make mistakes. We don’t harm others or wish others to harm. We respect all religions and all aspects of the Divine.

We have a saying, “From the shadows come the light and we are that light”. This means that no matter what dark place you are at in your life, you can still do good and use your darkness as a catalyst for helping others. Many of our practioners are survivors of abuse, cancer, and many other situations. We came together to heal within the love of the Old Ones. Our philosophy is to help ALL individuals who feel lost to the darkness. To let them know that there are others like them in this world and that they are not alone.
