SHADOW GODDESS LAYLA

Layla (Lilith or Lilitu) has over 100 names and variations in myths ranging from Ancient Sumeria to Jewish Mysticism to tribal Malayasia to myths about the Third Millenium. She is the first wife of Adam (before Eve) according to the Jewish myth. She is a Sumerian fertility/agricultural goddess, and she is the Greek goddess of the dark moon. She is the mother of all succubi. She is perhaps the most identifiable incarnation of historical feminism and men's fear of feminist idealogy (Judeo-Christian men used female icons to increase feminine demonification, essentially by lying and spreading rumours). Much like what has occurred with most matriarchs throughout history.

The Origin of Layla:

She has many origins. In one version of the bin-Sira version of the Bible, Lilith is the first wife of Adam (before Eve) and was created at the same time that god created Adam. In Greek myth, she is the goddess of the dark moon (Artemis is the goddess of the full moon, and Hecate is the goddess of the crescent moon). In Mesopotamian legends, Lilith is a fertility/earth goddess who protects people's children and helps to harvest food. In both Arabic and Jewish myths however, she is a succubus. A demon-woman who hunts men, seduces them and drains their life with a kiss. Jewish mothers believed Lilith would come to take their children away and eat them.

Its a bit like the German myth of Struwwelpeter. "Eat your food and stay clean or else Struwwelpeter will get you!"

There is a version of the Layla myth in EVERY religion known to mankind. Many of them have different names, such as Marilith or Lilitu, but all of them connect with the common theme: A demon woman, often with wings, who kills men and sometimes children. A succubus.

Of course, there is also legends about incubi (singular: incubus), but these should not be confused with succubi (which is the plural of succubus). The incubi are fallen angels in Judeo-Christianity who fell to earth because they had sex with mortal women. Since then incubi have stalked the earth, seducing women in their dreams and impregnating them.

I am a child of the Dark Goddess and here is where I belong. Lilith is my Dark Angel, my Goddess and my eternal love - I thank thee, Lilitu ,for guiding me to this sacred place where I honour thee side by side with my family and my kin.

Every new experience with Her brings me closer to unlocking something inside me, as if Womanhood carries a secret only Lilith knows and can unveil. Does anyone else feel this???

Blessings

(From a book I am currently writing)

Book of Days-Times of Darkness

In the First Age, the gods were alone, adrift. And being lonely, they created All That Is.

And quickly, Lilyth grew weary of the pointless pursuits the gods of Light and left the Shining Throng to create Her own World of Night.

And the creation of Night was the dawn of the Second Age.
Intent on Her creation, She spawned a Race of beings that would feed on Darkness, revel in the Blood of Her nemeses- the Gods of Light and Laughter.

The High Priest of Her Childer was Caine. Marked as a condemned enemy of the light, Caine began a war that would take him to the Gates of Elysium itself.

The Dark Goddess Lilyth blessed Caine, offered him Her precious vitae of which the cosmos was made. Caine grew strong and powerful, his life enriched by the Blessings of Lilyth.

But Caine, in his arrogance, rejected all but the gift of longevity, spurning Her glorious gifts to his peril.
He rejected the power to transform into any beast, to become mist or smoke, he rejected the gift to bring ecstasy with his bite, so that his victims felt the pain of the bite and the loss of their humanity keenly. He rejected the chance to sit at the Dark Goddess's feet and be a part of a great clan. All this did he cast beneath his feet, choosing instead to make himself a god.
The Dark Mother was grieved that Her Chosen would behave thus and cast a curse upon him and all who would spawn from his bite. The Dark Mother mourned her lost and sank into torpor.

And so it is that the Dark Goddess sleeps.
