I hope I was able to answer the question as to Handfastings, and I haven't forgotten about the promised forum post. Alot of people mistake the two.

I just recently had someone I know suffer through a situation where someone they knew, and someone close to them to (disgusting isn't it?) report them to the Social Security office as being married after having found out that they were Handfasted. Scary when you can't trust your own family..

But anyhow, they got ahold of Social Security, found out they could (and probably will) press charges, and it was all fairly easily resolved, but they still have to wait extra time for their check.

Which is horrible, because they could've been risking losing their electricity. Thankfully that was not the case, we take care of our own, but still, can you imagine the nerve of someone to do something that low to family, and in the winter, knowing they have a child nonetheless? It's insane.

A Handfasting is a marriage, but it's only a legal institution if paperwork has been filed. It all boils down the Almighty Social Security number..lol. I'm so glad things worked out for them.
